An abundant hydrophobin (ABH1) forms hydrophobic rodlet layers in Agaricus bisporus fruiting bodies
Article Abstract:
The ABH1 gene of Agaricus bisporus secretes a class I hydrophobin in fruiting bodies that self-assemble at the wall-air interface with the rodlet-decorated hydrophobic end facing the air. The non-wettability of the surface of fruiting bodies is probably due to this layer. The ABH1 hydrophobic protein also lines the air channels in the fruiting bodies. The amino acid sequence of ABH1 is similar to that of the class I hydrophobic genes of other fungi. ABH1 mRNA is absent in the substrate mycelium. A homologous ABH2 gene of unknown activity is present downstream of ABH1.

Differential expression of genes under control of the mating-type genes in the secondary mycelium of Schizophyllum commune
Article Abstract:
Monokaryons of Schizophyllum commune contain either the mating-type gene present on the MATA or MATB loci while dikaryons contain both. Unlike the monokaryons which produce only aerial hyphae and express SC3 gene, dikaryons produce fruit bodies also and express SC1,SC3, SC4, and SC7 genes. MATB-on expression reduces the expression of SC3 and both MATA-on and MATB-on are required for the expression of SC1, SC4 and SC7. In dikaryons MATB is not expressed in the tissue of the fruit body whose cells contain the two nuclei at a distance from each other.

Identification of three differentially expressed hydrophobins in Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster mushroom)
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to identify three differentially expressed class I hydrophobins in the oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus. The RT-PCR technique was used in the isolation of their cDNAs based on N-terminal sequence analyses. Their coding sequences were isolated and their regulation was observed. Results indicated that of the three hydrophobins, designated POH1, POH2 and POH3, the POH1 gene was activated only during fruiting and that POH2 and POH3 were not present from the fruiting bodies.
