Isolation of developmentally regulated genes from the edible mushroom Agaricus bisporus

Article Abstract:

Nine cDNAs, corresponding to unlinked genes, from mushroom primordia were isolated during the generative phase of the life cycle to determine the structure, function and expression of the developmentally regulated genes of Agaricus bisporus. Results reveal that the development of A. bisporus can be divided into four stages which coincided with alterations in morphological appearance of mushrooms. Furthermore, three cDNA clones were identified during the vegetative phase of the mushroom life cycle.

Different temporal and spatial expression of two hydrophobin-encoding genes of the edible mushroom Agaricus bisporus

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the structure of two hydrophobin-encoding genes of the mushroom, Agaricus bisporus. Results indicated that the hydrophobins support different functions in A. bisporus. Findings also showed that hypB encodes a polypeptide of 119 aa that supported little sequence identity with HYPA beside the characteristic arrangement of eight cysteines found in hydrophobins.

Abr1, a transposon-like element in the genome of the cultivated mushroom Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Imbach

Article Abstract:

A type II transposon not previously reported in basidiomycetes has been discovered in Agaricus bisporus. Southern blot analysis shows little variation among commercial species, but great variation among mushrooms collected in the wild.
