Body measurement variability, fatness, and fat-free mass in children 8, 11, and 14 years of age: Project HeartBeat!
Article Abstract:
A body mass factor and a linear growth factor reflect body fat and fat-free mass as components of body composition, according to results of a study associated with Project HeartBeat! on cardiovascular risk factors in white and African American children. Triceps, subscapular and midaxillary skinfolks could be used to estimate fatness in children. About seven percent of the children studied were overweight based on body mass index, and 25% were mildly obese based on the percentage of body fat.

Blood pressure and adiposity: a comparative study of socioeconomically diverse groups of Andhra Pradesh, India
Article Abstract:
The effects of social and economically diverse populations on adiposity and relative fat disorders were measured and compared in semi-nomadic Yerukalas, hard-working scheduled caste Mala and Muslims, land-owning agricultural castes Reddy and Balija; and sedentary urban dwelling casts such as Brahmins, Vyshyas and Marwadis. Systolic blood pressure is significantly affected by body fat more than age or activity levels.

Sensitivity and specificity of the body mass index to assess low percent body fat in African women
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the body mass index is an inaccurate predictor of low percent body fat among women of rural central Africa. Tradeoffs between sensitivity and specificity are explored for a broad range of body mass index values.
