Comparative analysis of Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae and pv. phaseolicola based on phaseolotoxin-resistant ornithine carbamoyltrnsferase gene (argK) and 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer sequences
Article Abstract:
The phaseolotoxin-resistant ornithine carbamoyltransferase gene (argK) and 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer sequences reveal that Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae and pv. phaseolicola have different phylogenetic evolutionary origins. An identical argK is present in bean isolates of P. syringae pv. phaseolicola in Mexico, US, Japan and Canada, and in kudzu, kiwifruit and tara vine isolates of the two bacteria strains. A significant sequence variation occurs in the strains in the 16S-23S spacer regions. The lack of synonymous substitution shows differences in evolution of the two strains.

Detection of stable pre-rRNA in toxigenic Pseudo-nitzschia species
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to investigate the characterization of pre-ribosomal RNA (rRNA) in toxigenic Pseudo-nitzschia species. Probe hybridization methods were used to determine the nucleotide sequences of external and internal transcribed spacers, and characterized pre-rRNA pools in cultured P. multiseries cells. Results indicated that pre-rRNA sequences included conserved regions in secondary structures required for rRNA maturation and that the extent of pre-rRNA depletion in starved Escherichia coli cells varied with conditions.

Genetic characterization of Pseudomonas syringe pv. syringae strains from stone fruits in California
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the pathogenicity of strains of Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae and genetically characterize the presence of the syrB and syrC genes. The strains were determined from healthy and diseased stone fruit tissues obtained from orchard sites based in California. Results indicated that the strains supported a distinct cluster that was separate from most of the strains determined from other hosts.
