Dendritic cell progenitor is transformed by a conditional v-Rel estrogen receptor fusion protein v-RelER
Article Abstract:
The conditional v-Rel estrogen receptor fusion protein v-RelER transforms chicken bone marrow cells in a v-rel-specific manner and the transformed cells possess B lymphoid determinants. Administration of an estrogen antagonist inactivates v-RelER oncoprotein activity, leading to differentiation of cells into antigen-presenting dendritic cells. The differentiation of v-relER cells into polymorphonuclear neutrophil-like cells under a different set of culture conditions indicates that v-RelER transforms a common progenitor for dendritic cells and neutrophils.

Self/nonself recognition in fungi: old mysteries and simple solutions
Article Abstract:
Multiallelic recognition in fungi involves combinatorial interactions of homeodomain proteins to generate hetorodimers with new regulatory functions. Another mechanism governing molecular recognition operates via pheromones and receptors where the pheromone signal triggers the expression of genes involved in sexual development as well as multiallelic mating-type determination.

DC-SIGN: a guide to some mysteries of dendritic cells
Article Abstract:
DC-SIGN participates in both functions of dendritic cells: interactions with T cells and infectious organisms. DC-SIGN is a type II membrane protein on dendritic cells with a mannose-binding, C-type lectin domain.
