Mitochondrial DNA differentiation in the critically endangered Berg river redfin
Article Abstract:
The Berg River redfin is an endangered endemic cyprinid. Mitochondrial DNA control region variation was investigated in specimens of five populations taken from two adjacent river systems. The genetic separation of redfins originating from the geographically closely allied Verlorevlei and Berg Rivers was pronounced. It is recommended that the two populations be managed as distinct conservation units.

AFLP analysis of the critically endangered Limonium cavanillesii
Article Abstract:
AFLP analysis was used to assay genetic variation in the only remaining population of Limonium cavanillesii. 231 marker bands were provided, 13 of which were polymorphic. The low genetic variability may be due to the apomictic reproductive system of the species. AFLPs were more variable as markers than RAPDs.
