Ecophysiological and phylogenetic studies of Nevskia ramosa in pure culture

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the ecophysiological and phylogentic attributes of the neuston bacterium Nevskia ramosa which forms a conspicuous rosette-like microcolonies at the air-water interface. Pure cultures of the bacteria were gathered from a bog lake and fresh water ditch. Results revealed that these bacteria were sensitive to ultra violet radiation and they form a hydrophobic surface films with a dull appearance.

Effect of signal compounds and incubation conditions on the culturability of freshwater bacterioplankton

Article Abstract:

Results reveal that of the several signal compounds screened for their ability to influence culturability of freshwater bacterioplankton, cyclic AMP turns out to be most effective signal compound, which increased cultivation efficiencies of up to 10% of the total bacterial counts. Furthermore, cyclic AMP stimulates growth of other nonculturable bacterial species.

Specific detection, isolation, and characterization of selected, previously uncultured members of the freshwater bacterioplankton community

Article Abstract:

High-throughput cultivation was combined with rapid and group-specific phylogenetic fingerprinting in order to recover representative of three freshwater bacterioplankton communities. The dot blot hybridization revealed that the strains occur in lakes of different tropical status and constitute of 2% of the microbial community.
