Formation and maturation of the calcium release apparatus in developing and adult avian myocardium

Article Abstract:

Calcium channels play an important role in regulating calcium release in the muscle fibers. These calcium release units are composed of structural complexes regulated by the interaction between dihydropyridine receptors (DHPRs) in plasma membrane calcium channels and the ryanodine receptors (RyRs) in sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium release channels. A study of the avian myocardium using immunocytochemistry provide information on the assembly of DHPRs and RyRs into calcium release units.

Laminin variants and integrin laminin receptors in developing and adult human smooth muscle

Article Abstract:

Researchers used the immunofluorescence technique to analyze the distribution of laminin variant chains and of laminin-binding beta1-linked, alpha integrin subunits in the human arterial and visceral smooth muscle during development. The reaction of a variant laminin, most probably A-S-B2, with its receptor (alpha1 beta1 or alpha3 beta1) could be significant in the differentiated smooth muscle chain (SMC) phenotype in vivo.
