Genetics of O-antigen biosynthesis in Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to investigate the role of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) as a determinant of virulence in vaccination preparations and to analyze its chemistry and biosynthesis of the O-antigenic region due to its immunogenicity, serotype specificity and serum resistance properties. Findings have indicated that the A-band and B-band O antigens produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa are synthesized by independent mechanisms. It has also been found that the only protein common to both systems is glycosyltransferase WbpL.

Molecular regulation of beta-lactam biosynthesis in filamentous fungi
Article Abstract:
Studies on the regulation of biosynthesis of beta-lactam antibiotics were conducted to help elucidate the physiological and ecological functions of beta-lactams for the producing fungi. Biosynthetic pathways leading to penicillin and cephalosporin, two most common beta-lactam antibiotics, begin from the same three amino acid precursors and possess the first two enzymatic reactions in common. Findings suggest that fungal beta-lactam biosynthesis is regulated by a complex regulatory network.
