HLA genes and surnames show a similar genetic structure in Lombardy: Does this reflect part of the history of the region?

Article Abstract:

The cluster analysis of eleven provinces of Lombardy in northern Italy shows that the genetic structure of the region is a function of two independent parameters HLA allele frequencies and surnames. The similar genetic structure shown by these two independent sets reflect the ancient history of this most populated region that is preserved in the present population.
