Introducing SONS, a tool for operational taxonomic unit-based comparisons of microbial community memberships and structures

Article Abstract:

A computer program, SONS was presented which implements nonparametric estimators for the fraction and richness of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) shared between two communities. It was a versatile and powerful tool that would complement the suite of tools used by microbial ecologists to determine he taxonomic level at which community membership and structure were distinguishable.

Signal mimics derived from a metagenomic analysis of the gypsy moth gut microbia

Article Abstract:

A library of different signal mimics derived from a meragenomic analysis of the gypsy moth gut microbia is constructed and analyzed to analyze bacterial signaling of such compounds. Such an analysis of signal and genes may highly help us for characterizing the signal transduction in any microbial community.

Intracellular screen to identify metagenomic clones that induce or inhibit a quorum-sensing biosensor

Article Abstract:

A study to design and evaluate a rapid screen to identify metagenomic clones that produce biologically active small molecules was performed. The results demonstrated the power of an intracellular screen to identify functionally active clones and biologically active small molecules in metagenomic libraries.
