Low levels of genetic differentiation among populations of the freshwater fish Hyseleotris compressa (Gobiidae: Eleotridinae): implications for its biology, population connectivity and history

Article Abstract:

Low levels of genetic differentiation have been found in populations of Hyseleotris compressa (Gobiidae: Eleotridinae), a freshwater fish. Implications for the population connectivity, biology and history are discussed. Patterns of genetic variation among the populations did not match traditional expectations for a freshwater fish. It seems some connectivity, at least of a historical nature, exists between populations now in different drainages.

Nuclear and mitochondrial data reveal high genetic divergence among Atlantic and Mediterranean populations of the Iberian killlifish Aphanius iberus (Teleostei: Cyprinodontidae)

Article Abstract:

Nuclear and mitochondrial data have been found to show high genetic divergence in Atlantic and Mediterranean populations of the Iberian killlifish Aphanius iberus. The two lineages should be managed separately to keep them from losing their identity. The genetic uniqueness of the populations should be kept alive by using wild stocks as the source of genetic diversity in captive breeding programs.
