mRNA stability in mammalian cells
Article Abstract:
The stability of mRNA can influence gene expression in mammalian cells and may ultimately affect the growth and differentiation of those cells. The role of mRNases and mRNA-binding proteins in determining mRNA half life needs to be further elucidated. There is also a greater need for experiments in whole organisms. The sequence-specific control of mRNA stability, as exemplified by the action of AU-binding proteins, may provide another target for the regulation gene expression.

The alpha-galactosyl epitope: a sugar coating that makes viruses and cells unpalatable
Article Abstract:
The alpha-galactosyl epitope has recently been identified as the major xenoantigen responsible for the rejection of nonprimate cells, tissues and organs by human recipients. However, studies have shown that the epitope's anti-alpha-antibody (anti-Gal) can trigger natural immunity in humans. Moreover, anti-Gal and its carbohydrate epitope has been found to influence retroviral-mediated gene transfer and xenotransplantation.
