Microarrays for microbiologists

Article Abstract:

Microarrays for microbiologists are discussed in this review article. The role that gene expression profiling has begun to play in microbiology is assessed. The potential for genomotyping and future applications is considered. Topics include microarrays as a research tool and reliability and processing of data, microbial gene expression profiling, definition of entire regulons, analysis of gene expression in vivo, genomotyping and microbial evolution, industrial applications of microarrays, and the question of building or buying. Suppliers of given commercial pre-printed microarrays are listed.

From morphogenes to morphogenesis

Article Abstract:

Morphogenesis in microorganisms involves the interaction of gene products in a specific spatial environment for processing genetic information. In some organisms, changes in the structure are inherited in the absence of genetic changes. Morphogenes control biogenesis and encode products that are the main building blocks. The relationship between morphogenes and morphogenesis is discussed during budding in yeast and growth of the fungus Candida albicans.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa outer-membrane protein F epitopes are highly immunogenic in mice when expressed on a plant virus

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the immunogenicity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa outer-membrane protein F epitopes in mice during its expression on a plant virus. Pooled sera from mice was utilized to carry out western immunobotting experiments. Experimental results indicated that cowpea mosaic virus large coat protein is capable of inducing P. aeruginosa-specific opsonic IgG(sub 2a) and can be utilized as a protective vaccine against P. aeruginosa.
