Molecular analysis of a Salmonella enterica group E1 rfb gene cluster: O antigen and the genetic basis of the major polymorphism
Article Abstract:
The Salmonella enterica rfb gene cluster is responsible for most of this group's O antigen variation. The rfb gene clusters of S. enterica group B and group E1 were characterized and compared. The results showed that the central regions of both groups are divergent although the flanking sequences are conserved. It is proposed that the differences in the central regions are a result of recombination events involving the replacement of one set of genes by another unrelated set, probably by a lateral transfer from species with a low G+C content.

Rudolph Virchow and the genetic basis of somatic ecology
Article Abstract:
Rudolph Virchow's observations on the microscopic anatomy of tissues has helped shaped scientists' understanding of pathological conditions that afflict humans. He gave a series of lectures to physicians at the Institute of Pathology in Berlin, Germany. The lectures focused on his views on the cellular origin of cancer and problems related to pathological tissues he called neoplasms. In addition, Virchow had supported a wide perspective on human disease concerns.

Dominance is the major genetic basis of heterosis in rice as revealed by QTL analysis using molecular markers
Article Abstract:
The genetic basis of heterosis is examined in the crossing of two cultivated rice subspecies indica and japonica. F1, the heterosis product, is theoretically superior to the better cross parent. Application of quantitative trait loci based on molecular markers showed dominance complementation to be a major foundation for rice heterosis. This result was reflected in alleles at various loci for the F1 hybrid.
