Multilocus sequence type system for the plant pathogen Xylella fastidiosa and relative contributions of recombination and point mutation to clonal diversity

Article Abstract:

Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) is employed to estimate the relative contributions of recombination and point mutation to clonal divergence and it is applied to plant pathogen Xylella fastidiosa using an initial set of sequences from different host plants. The estimates of recombination obtained from the MLST data are compared to independent estimates derived using other methods.

Characterization of regulatory pathways in Xylella fastidiosa: genes and phenotypes controlled by algU

Article Abstract:

The effect of an insertional mutation in the algU gene of Xylella fastidiosa is analyzed, whole-genome microarray analysis is performed on gene expression in the mutant and the genes whose expression is controlled by algU is identified. It is shown that an algU:nptII mutant has reduced cell-cell aggregation, attachment and biofilm formation and lower virulence in grapevines.

Multilocus simple sequence repeat markers for differentiating strains and evaluating genetic diversity of Xylella fastidiosa

Article Abstract:

Multilocus simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were identified and designed from analyses of Xylella fastidiosa genome sequence databases. Results suggest that these markers can be used for differentiating X. fastidiosa strains both within and among crop associations.
