Nitrogen control in bacteria
Article Abstract:
The regulation of expression of the enzymes involved in nitrogen metabolism in bacteria depends on the availability of fixed nitrogen to the cell. This involves a complex mechanism with regulation at the transcriptional and post-translational levels. The nitrogen regulation system in the enteric bacteria appears to occur in other genera also. However, a number of alternative nitrogen regulatory systems in other bacterial genera have been identified. Comparatively little is known about nitrogen control in gram-positive bacteria. The P-II protein and homologs expressed by genes in the glnB family appear to be a ubiquitous component of nitrogen regulation.

Effect of light and organic acids on oxygen uptake by BTAi 1, a photosynthesis rhizobium
Article Abstract:
The photosynthetic-respiratory system of rhizobium strain BTA1 and itsresponse to light quantity and quality and to the addition of organic acids were investigated by being cultured ex planta. Oxygen uptake were measured and the resulting effect was correlated with the wavelengths of light associated with bacteriochlorophyll absorbance. The photobiology of BTA 1 was found to be similar to the photobiology of both aerobic and anaerobic photosynthetic bacteria.

Oxygen relations of nitrogen fixation in cyanobacteria
Article Abstract:
Cyanobacteria are known for their oxygen-evolving photosynthesis and oxygen-sensitive nitrogen fixation. These two conflicting metabolic systems within the algae coexist despite of the inhibitory effect of oxygen on nitrogenase. The nitrogen fixing ability of cyanobacteria is attributed to this enzyme. Different protective mechanisms are suggested to explain the metabolic systems in both the heterocystous and nonheterocystous cyanobacteria.
