Organization and nucleotide sequence of the glutamine synthetase (glnA) gene from Lactobacillus delbruekcii subsp. bulgaricus

Article Abstract:

The glutamine synthetase (glnA) gene of Lactobacillus delbruekii subsp. bulgaricus was isolated and characterized. Sequence analyses showed that the L. delbruekii glnA gene is not regulated by adenylation. Homology searches showed that the L. delbruekii gene is more closely related to the corresponding gram-positive gene. Further analysis revealed the presence of a second open reading frame whose sequence is similar to the glnR repressor gene of Bacillus cereus.

Stabilization of frozen Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus in glycerol suspensions: Freezing kinetics and storage temperature effects

Article Abstract:

The effects of three freezing protocols and two storage temperatures on the viability and acidification activity of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus CFL1in the presence of glycerol were investigated. It was suggested that the cell damage which occurs in rapidly cooled cells during storage at high subzero temperatures is caused by an osmotic imbalance during warming, not the formation of intracellular ice.

Induction of heavy-metal-transporting CPX-type ATPases during acid adaptation in Lactobacillus bulgaricus

Article Abstract:

Reverse transcription and real-time quantitative PCR and mapped transcription start sites are used to analyze the transport system during acid adaptation in Lactobacillus bulgaricus. The results have suggested that acidification of the culture medium have affected copper homeostasis and cell viability in Lactobacillus bulgaricus.
