Regulation of the alginate biosynthesis gene algC in Pseudomonas aeruginosa during biofilm development in continuous culture

Article Abstract:

Reporter gene technology helps analyze the behavior of algC, the principal gene in the alginate biosynthesis pathway of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, in developing and mature biofilms in continuous culture on glass and Teflon substrata. A combination of microscopy and image analysis helps examine the in situ gene activity within single bacterial cells attached to a surface. Up-expression of algC in the bacterial cells is promoted by the glass substratum.

Validation of AKACID Plus as a room disinfectant in the hospital setting

Article Abstract:

AKACID Plus, a novel polymeric guanidine with broad antimicrobial activity against multiantibiotic-resistant bacterial strains is used as a room disinfectant in a study at concentrations of 0.1, 0.25, and 0.5% for 100 min. The findings indicate that nebulized AKACID Plus at a concentration of 0.5% is a potent substance for eradication of pathogenic organisms in the hospital setting.

Novel sensitive high-throughput screening strategy for nitrilase-producing strains

Article Abstract:

A time saving method to detect the behavior of nitrilases-producing strain is presented. Results conclude that application of o-hydroxybenzonirile derivatives is very quick and time saving method for detecting the activity of nitrilases.
