Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) of Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC13032 - genetic characterization of a second class IV enzyme
Article Abstract:
The cloning and sequencing of the nucleotide reduction (nrd) genes of Corynebacterium glutamicum encoding the key enzyme of DNA precursor biosynthesis in the amino-acid producing species are described. The conjugative introduction of nrdE from C. glutamicum complemented thermosensitive mutants of Corynebacterium ammoniagenes which had a defective catalytic subunit of the Mn-ribonucleotide reductases. Arguments for the allocation of the C. glutamicum NrdEF proteins to class IV of a previous RNR classification scheme are provided.

Expression of the second lysine decarboxylase gene of Escherichia coli
Article Abstract:
Amino acid decarboxylases in E. Coli that attack the basic amino acids, ornithine, lysine and arginine are physiologically significant. An inducible decarboxylase (CadA) has been extensively characterized in lysine, and a second lysine decarboxylase has now been encoded by a locus (ldc) previously thought to be a lysine decarboxylase gene. The ldc gene product LDc was found to be active over a wide range of pH, higher than that of CadA.

Correlation of the rate of protein synthesis and the third power of the RNA:protein ratio in Escherichia coli and Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Article Abstract:
Research examines the importance of protein concentration and the rate of protein biosynthesis in cell growth in that protein content is correlated with cell volume, the RNA:DNA ratio with the number of ribosomes per cell and the RNA:protein ration with the ribosome concentration, which in turn reflects protein synthesis rate.
