The Oct-1 POU domain activates snRNA gene transcription by contacting a region in the SNAP sub c largest subunit that bears sequence similarities to the Oct-1 coactivator OBF-1
Article Abstract:
For SNAP sub c recruitment, mediation by an interaction between the Oct-1 POU domain and a small region of the largest subunit of SNAP sub c has a role, and as it were, recruits SNAP sub c for the proximal sequence element (PSE). A direct protein-protein, Oct-1 POU domain-SNAP190 contact, brings about transcription activation. An activation target of a human activator, Oct-1, has been identified within its cognate basal transcription complex.

The plasma membrane as a combat zone in the HIV battleground
Article Abstract:
The plasma membrane is discussed as a combat zone in the battle against HIV in this review article. The plasma membrane influences viral infectivity, but the virus uses components of the membrane and changes some others. Topics include viral entry, including first contact and coreceptor engagement and perturbation of homeostasis in the siege, with MHC-1 and CD4 down-modulation and some deductions about viruses in general are made.

Phosphorylation of a novel SOCS-box regulates assembly of the HIV-1 Vif-Cul5 complex that promotes APOBEC3G degradation
Article Abstract:
The Vif (viral infectivity factor) targets APOBEC3G for degradation by forming an SCF-like E3 ubiquitin ligase containing Cullin 5 and Elongins B and C (Cul5-EloB-EloC) through a novel SOCS (suppressor of cytokine signaling)-box that binds EloC. Vif ubiquitination is promoted by Cul5 in vitro and in vivo and requires an intact SOCS-box.
