Transposition of IS117 of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) in Mycobacterium smegmatis

Article Abstract:

It was shown that the Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) 2.6 kb minicircle, IS117, transposes into at least three chromosal attachment sites in Mycobacterium smegmatis mc(super 2)155. The Mycobacterium smegmatis strain was prepared in 7H9 broth. Genomic DNA was then extracted from the strain using the salting-out technique. Moreover, plasmid DNA four double-strand sequencing was purified using the Qiagen plasmid purification kit.

Medium- and long-chain fatty acid uptake and utilization by Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2): first characterization of a Gram-positive bacterial system

Article Abstract:

The fatty acid uptake of a Gram-positive bacterium, Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) was characterized. The bacteria consumes fatty acids of C4-C18 chain lenghts as sole carbon and energy sources. Uptake of medium-chain fatty acid octanoate exhibited characteristics of simple diffusion while, uptake of the long-chain fatty acid palmitate, occurred by simple diffusion and active transport.
