The Gene Screen

Article Abstract:

By using a method called genetic screening, which involves blood tests, employees could be spotted who have the potential to be affected by various chemicals in the work place, and then those employees could be utilized in other areas of the workplace where they would not be exposed to the dangerous substances. While the technique, now in its infancy, does have many potential benefits, there are also potential dangers. The tests could be used as ways to justify discriminatory hiring practices, and could reduce the motivation to correct those workplace hazards. While the technology will not be ready for commercial use for several years, the controversy surrounding the use of genetic testing is expected to continue.

The spirituality of solidarity and total quality management

Article Abstract:

The moral foundation of total quality management (TQM) is solidarity or the view that a person attains spirituality in his contributions to his fellow men rather than personal and material gain. TQM is based on the same principle as solidarity. Both assume that each person craves to be recognized as a responsible person who wants to cooperate with others for the common good. TQM fails when it is not based on solidarity.
