To succeed globally, disperse locally: Effects of local pollen and seed dispersal on tetraploid establishment

Article Abstract:

A stochastic spatial model, parameterized using snow buttercups was used to examine the influence of limited seed and pollen dispersal distances on the success of minority tetraploids and the interaction of these factors with different rates of self-pollination and tetraploid advantage. With short-distance seed and pollen dispersal, polyploid speciation should be possible in the absence of ecological differentiation or recurrent polypoid formation through unreduced gametes

Estimation of allele frequencies in polyploids under certain patterns of inheritance

Article Abstract:

Allele frequency estimates applied in human DNA profiling are incorporated to polyploids in horticultural plants to use and maintain germplasm effectively. Studies are conducted focusing on disomic and polysomic inheritance patterns of polyploids and an EM-type algorithm is presented to estimate allele frequencies based on them and the method is demonstrated using simulated data.

Individual QTLs controlling quantitative variation in blood pressure inherited in a Mendelian mode

Article Abstract:

The possible genotypes at well-defined blood pressure (BP) QTLs are studied by using congenic rat lines in order to find whether the hypertensive or normotensive allele is dominant, or whether there is partial dominance. The dominance relationships have indicated some pertinent strategies for gene identification and pharmaceutical intervention.
