An empirical investigation of supplier development: reactive and strategic processes
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to compare approaches used by buying companies in supplier development using a process framework. Supplier development was characterized as any set of initiatives carried out by a buying company to determine and enhance supplier performance. Open-ended survey questions were asked to analyze firms' supplier development processes. Results indicated that strategic efforts correlated with increases in a buying firm's association in the suppliers' processes.
