Clinton deficit plan clears early hurdle

The budget committees of the House and Senate Mar 10-11, 1993, passed resolutions that approved Pres Clinton's economic proposals for reducing the federal budget deficit. The resolutions include larger spending cuts than Clinton had first recommended.

Senate panel drops BTU energy tax
Article Abstract:
Senate Finance Committee Democrats approved Pres Clinton's spending reductions and tax increases on Jun 16, 1993, but they replaced the energy tax with a gasoline and fuel tax. The proposed fuel-tax increase was 4.3 cents per gallon.
