Gateway to sell training gear for PC music, finance and photos

Article Abstract:

Gateway will update it's Your Ware program with the addition of equipment, software, and training courses for photography, music, Interne use and personal finance. The company plans to add video to the list later. Products will sell for $229 to $649, classes $69 to $99. The courses will be held online or in Gateway Country stores. The Your Ware program is part of the company's effort to grow it's business in the face of declining computer hardware prices. Gateway also announced buying a 7.3% equity share of Quepasa.com, Phoenix, for $10 mil.

Mimicking Dell, Compaq to sell its PCs directly

Article Abstract:

Though they might not like it, Compaq computer dealers and distributors understand the move the company is making toward selling directly to small- and medium-sized businesses in order to compete more effectively with Dell. Compaq Computers is the leader today because of those very dealers and now will use Internet and telephone sales to try to slow down Dell which just moved into 1st place in the 3rd quarter of 1998. Compaq is offering dealer incentives to get them to refer their customers to the company. Besides selling direct, Compaq is promising 5-day delivery on orders to beat Dell by 2 days.

Compaq says sales of new Prosignia PC have climbed to over $1 million a day

Article Abstract:

Compaq.com is selling Prosignia PCs directly to consumers at a rate of more than $1 million per day. It's not clear, though, how much the Internet sales hurt the company's dealers. Compaq claims it is taking business from competitors by more aggressive pricing than the first time it tried Online selling back in 1993.
