Computron: workflow cool
Article Abstract:
Computron Software CEO Andy Typaldos believes that accountants should not be mere scorekeepers for their companies. He feels that accountants should instead act as business planners making decisions that can lead their companies to achieve their goals. This way, these professionals can become passionate about their practice once again and renew their self-esteem as employees of the organization. Typaldos hopes to help accountants renew their vigor by using the products that his company, Computron Software, develops for financial purposes. These include workflow and computer output on-line, which can connect the financial function with all of the organization's operations. Judging from Typaldos' wide range of experience and knowledge, one can confidently say that he can achieve this ambitious goal of rejuvenating the accounting profession using his products.

SCALA: serving many masters
Article Abstract:
Per-Olof Myren is the founder of the Swedish computer software firm Beslutsmodeller AB which is best known for its market-leading accounting and business management software system called Scala. This multinational, multilingual and multicurrency system, which allows users to meet various financial reporting, tax filing and accounting conventions, is considered to be one of the popular accounting software programs in the market, having been installed in over 10,000 locations in over 70 countries. Myren describes how he got involved in the software development business and how his company developed Scala because it felt that there was a niche for software that could be used by people who spoke languages other than English. Myren also discusses his future expansion plans for Beslutsmodeller AB, as well as future upgrades of the Scala system now being planned.

Polishing Platinum
Article Abstract:
Platinum Software CEO Carmelo Santoro believes that the company is finally on its way to recovery after a series of problems almost killed off the company. Platinum used to be a market leader but found itself on the edge of fiscal ruin in 1994 as a result of excessively aggressive expansion into the wrong market. To exacerbate matters, the company had to face lawsuits which found the company to be flouting generally accepted accounting principles, thereby further damaging its reputation. Nevertheless, Santoro was able to turn the company around by getting rid of its peripheral business and simply concentrating on financial software. Moreover, he focused marketing on the emerging middle market and abandoned DOS in favor of Windows.
