Sophisticated Lady
Article Abstract:
The Student Loan Marketing Association (Sallie Mae) is the world's largest educational financier. Sallie Mae has been a publicly traded stock for seven months. The price of the stock has been rising since it was first issued. The strength of the stock lies in its ability to borrow cheap money and lend it out at consistently higher rates. This is because of its quasi- government status. The outlook for student loan demand is healthy. Administration and operating costs of these loans are low. Sallie Mae is the only secondary market participant operating nationwide. The loan itself is guaranteed by the government.
