Enron to acquire Wessex Water for $2.2 billion

Article Abstract:

In a drive to become the first US company to compete against the dominant French firms in the global water service industry, Houston-based energy giant, Enron Corp., announced it is to purchase the British water and sewage company, Wessex Water PLC, for $2.2 billion. Enron hopes to become a significant force in the world-wide water industry as the industry is undergoing the same type of privatization drive that the electricity industry did throughout the 1990s.
