Louisiana Pacific fined $37 million

Article Abstract:

Louisiana-Pacific Corp. says it is changing its corporate culture and will pay $11.5 million in fines now, the remaining $25.5 million by 2002. The company pled guilty to 18 felony criminal charges in the biggest Clean Air Act fine ever. The company, based in Montrose, Colorado, makes a wood product for the housing and construction industry called waferboard. Not only did the "old" company defraud its customers by providing a product not up to code, but it falsified information it submitted to testers in addition to tampering with pollution-monitoring devises.
