Symbolic world of house and home
Article Abstract:
An exhibition at the Prince of Wales's Institute of Architecture, London, England, explores the theme of the house in children's literature. One room contains original prints and the other room displays book illustrations grouped into categories. One of these groups, which looks at the house as a representation of comfort and security, includes illustrations from the books of Beatrix Potter. Another group, which looks at the invasion of the home, includes illustrations from 'The Pirate Twins' by William Nicholson.

Many icons, few iconoclasts: Marilyn Monroe rates, the newest Mrs. Kennedy does not (yet)
Article Abstract:
The root of 'icon' is traced back to the Greek, meaning to resemble, then on to mean a revered symbol. Further meanings evolved and in 1996 it may mean a symbol for an idea as used on the computer screen, or it may mean a media celebrity or product. 'Going negative' started in the 1984 primaries.
