Two New York, NY, agencies offered financial incentives on Aug 24, 1995, to the Coffee, Sugar and Cocoa Exchange (CSCE), if it will merge with the New York Mercantile Exchange and stay in New York City. CSCE had previously announced plans to move to Jersey City, NJ, along with the Cotton Exchange.

Hong Kong: Major vows to protect post-1997 rights

UK Prime Minister John Major attempted to allay fears that Hong Kong residents would not be deserted by the government once the island reverts to Chinese control on Jun 30, 1997. Hong Kong politicians wanted greater assurances of protection and said that Major did not address human rights.

Murdoch repurchases 'N.Y. Post.' (Rupert Murdoch, New York Post newspaper)

A New York, New York, bankruptcy court judge ruled Mar 29, 1993, that Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation could repurchase the bankrupt New York Post newspaper. Murdoch was given 60 days to obtain federal approval of the purchase.
