PMC to launch high-speed chips in uncertain market

PMC-Sierra Corp. is set to introduce high-speed chips for use in metropolitan optical networks. The chips can process data at 10 gigabytes per second, and will be available in prototype form this summer. Some local networks are planning ahead for such high speeds, but many carriers currently cannot spend on boosting capacity.
