Further, to succeed, corporations need to develop a detailed growth portfolio, protect new ventures from the rest of the organization, and build growth into the company's culture.

A six-stage approach to company growth is presented. The six stages are conception and existence, survival, profitability/stabilization, profitability/growth, take-off, and maturity. Companies at the conception and existence stage must answer basic questions concerning matters such as gaining customers and delivering products or services.
