Retail building supply industry

Article Abstract:

Results were mixed for the retail building supply industry in 1997, and the 1997 Christmas selling season was disappointing for many companies. Several firms did well and expanded during the year, but weaker stores struggled in 1997. Home Depot Inc led the industry by expanding its warehouse stores, and other companies concentrated on the professional niche. Investors need to seek stocks with proven records of success and store concepts.
