Saving Time with Business Graphics

Article Abstract:

'Graphics '83', a conference and exhibition dedicated solely to computer graphics, is testimony to the rapid growth of this area of the computer industry. Graphics allows the condensation of material into a more easily comprehended form. Systems with rough graphic capability are available from $5,000 to $10,000. Those producing commercial presentation, technical illlustration, or typeset qualities cost $15,000 and up. Applications producing sales statistics graphs on IBM 3279 color graphics terminals, and building-forecast charts on a Tektronix 4052 computer system, are described.

At Last, A Standard for Graphics Software?

Article Abstract:

A computer graphics package developed for IBM by Graphic Software Systems is described. The package includes a 'Graphics Development Toolkit' that enables programmers to write software. The kit's device driver translates graphics applications into a language that any machine can understand. If Graphic Software's drivers become standard, a single version of a graphics application will work on all machines. Several computer manufacturers have licensed the program. Started in 1981, Graphic Software has sales of about $3 million in 1983 and expects to reach $5 million in 1984.
