The big end of town goes bush, for a cause

Article Abstract:

Corporate leaders are lending personal and financial support to Australia's Bookmark Biosphere Reserve, a project to study and promote self-sufficiency, job creation, and community involvement in conservation. Since 1993, the reserve has been operated with the assistance of the government of South Australia, but more than 50% of funding comes from the private sector. Investment in money and volunteer work is worth $14 million.

The Queensland, Australia, power industry is in transition and political uncertainty is causing concerns over the Government's ownership of power stations. If the coalition stays in power, it will be pressured by the Liberal Party and State Treasury to sell the power stations. If the Labor Party wins, unions are said to want to move towards recalling existing reforms.
