The information problems in organizations: a research model for the value of information and information systems

Article Abstract:

Information problems and associated organizational economics and industrial organization theories are classified into four categories, providing a more satisfactory approach to assessing system value than traditional normative or business value approaches. Investments in information technologies are linked to value of information in organizations and a model presented for estimating the value of information systems to organizations. Designing lateral organizations: an analysis of the benefits, costs, and enablers of nonhierarchical organizational forms

Article Abstract:

Lateral organization structure works effectively in companies with high levels of uncertainty and diverse operations. It allows for personal and informal interactions among members of the organization in carrying out goals and objectives. Management authority becomes more a function of information and competence rather than a function of position. Employees are recognized for their commitment-driven competencies and performances. There is reduced operational and administrative costs pertaining to stress, work overload, and loss of work enthusiasm.
