EC External Trade Commissioner Leon Brittan traveled to the US Feb 11-12, 1993, to met with US Trade Representative Mickey Kantor and members of Congress. The meeting focused on trade negotiations to conclude an agreement under the auspices of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.

The US and the EC partially resolved a debate that arose after the US announced that it would not allow the government to award contracts to EC firms for power-generation and telecommunications services. The EC agreed to stop favoring firms based there.
