A Swiss Christmas

Article Abstract:

Christmas celebrations in Switzerland derive from a mixture of customs traceable to Roman and German pre-Christian practices. A wreath with four candles is lit starting on the fourth Sunday before Christmas to commemorate the Advent. The sixth day of December commemorates Saint Nicholas' visit to children. The whole month of December is witness to a blaze of colored lights decorating houses and stores. Those who have a penchant for creating their own Christmas decorations would find plenty of resources and ideas in the varied craft shops in the country.

It is constructing tourist attractions such as the Millennium Bridge, the Millennium Wheel, the Tate Gallery of Modern Art and the London Imax Cinema, using funds from the national lottery. Aside from this, the UK also plans to put up new arts, science and recreation centers across the country. Travelers would make a wise choice of including the UK in their itinerary.
