A revised critical path method for networks including both overlap relationships and variable-duration activities

Article Abstract:

The inventory balance project network model, an extension of the critical method incorporating overlap relationships with the features of a duration-based model, is described. Symmetric forward and backward procedures for the model are proposed to compute the first and last cumulative intensity curves and activity times based on inventory balance limitations. These cumulative intensity curves provide for the interpretation of activity criticality and slack.

Single-machine sequencing with controllable processing times

Article Abstract:

The static single-machine sequencing problem with multicriteria cost function and due date determination decision is optimally solved using a new model. Optimum processing times, an optimum sequence and an optimum due date minimizing total cost function are derived by representing the problem as an assignment problem based on four lemmas. Proofs for each lemma and applications of the proposed algorithm are presented.

Optimal inspection policies for a manufacturing station

Article Abstract:

The optimal inspection policies for an automated manufacturing facility modeled as a simple queueing process with feedback is determined. Analysis using standard dynamic programming shows that the optimal inspection policy is dependent on the threshold applied to the queue length. Results also show that the threshold is influenced by discount factor of interest and time horizon.
