A slave-labour settlement

Article Abstract:

The German government has agreed to a settlement for former slave laborers of the Nazi era, together with 65 companies, with contributions from the government and the companies to be similar. This means that the companies are less likely to suffer boycotts in the US. Other claims are pending relating to the Holocaust, such as those affecting insurers. Meanwhile, payment could be delayed for those due compensation, since a bill first has tobe approved by Germany's parliament. This creates problems due to the advanced age of most survivors.

Gambling on the war

Article Abstract:

Uganda is involved in a civil war in Congo against the president, Laurent Kabila, formerly an ally of Uganda, which helped Kabila to seize power. Uganda has since discovered links between Kabila and Sudan, an enemy of Uganda, and rebel groups have been thriving in an area of Congo near its border with Uganda. There is some opposition within Uganda to involvement in this conflict, which has meant the withdrawal of troops from areas where there is rebel activity.
