AUSTRIA: CITIZENS WANT E-GOVERNMENT

According to a poll conducted by Unisys in cooperation with the Vienna Economics University, 46% of Austrians want to use the internet for communication with the public authorities, while currently 3% are doing so. 40% want to use the telephone, 13% the post, 8% fax, 4% info terminals and 1% WAP phones and SMS. The Wirtschaftskammer reports that 63% of companies want to use internet for communication with the authorities. According to the government's plans, this will be possible from the end of 2002 at the latest.
