AUSTRIA: TIROL MILCH TO SURVIVE ON ITS OWN

Article Abstract:

The third-largest Austrian dairy Tirol Milch wants to survive on its own also in the future. The dairy does not want to give up its roots by a merger but wants to expand business only in the Tyrol region. In 2000, Tirol Milch is to focus especially on export business. Export share of turnover is to be increased by two percentage points to 27%. The company delivers dairy products mainly to Italy and Germany. According to managing director Hans Partl, the Austrian market for organic dairy products is stagnating, and success is possible only abroad. Tirol Milch is setting hopes on the whey drink Lattella, and will launch functional food products in the autumn of 2000. In 1999, Tirol Milch increased turnover by 7.5% to Sch 1.64bn, while profits on ordinary activities rose by 51% to Sch 24.4mn.
