Akio Morita
Article Abstract:
Akio Morita was the co-founder of a telecoms company that later became Sony, the company that became synonymous with the Walkman, developed in the late 1970s. The Betamax recorder was not successful, though it was seen as better than the VHS recorder, which captured the market. Sony also had problems with its experience in Hollywood. Morita had to look outward since the domestic market was dominated by established Japanese companies, and this meant using English ways of thinking, which was sometimes at odds with his Japanese heritage.
