Angry old man

Article Abstract:

Indonesian writer Pramoedya Ananta Toer regards himself as the product of a failed generation. He has focused on Indonesia's attempts to develop a national identity, and this brought him into conflict with the authorities under President Suharto's reign. He has now become disillusioned, and since spending 14 years on Indonesia's prison island has written only one novella. He feels that the one hope for the future is in a new generation untainted by political corruption.
