Boeing, Airbus receive big orders at air show

Article Abstract:

Embraer SA has reported the largest single order in terms of plane number to surpass Boeing Co. and Airbus Industries on the second day of the international air show at Farnborough, England in the UK. Embraer got an order for 75 new ER-135 37-seat jets valued at $1 billion from American Eagle, with options for another 75 to bring the total potential value to $2 billion. American Eagle is to take deliveries starting July 1999 through 2004. Boeing received an order for 24 jetliners worth about $1.8 billion from Varig of Brazil, with options for another 15 worth about $1 billion. Airbus reported firm orders for six A340-500 long-range aircraft valued at $900 million from Emirates airline of Dubai, with options for ten more worth $1.5 billion.
