Article Abstract:
The financial catastrophe facing Olympia and York is causing economists and financiers to examine the merits of capital raising techniques. What happened to Olympia and York has nothing to do with whether they borrowed from banks or turned to bonds though. They misread their market and took on too much debt.

Japan's economic troubles are threatening its banks, which hold non-performing loans to business amounting to over $100 billion. Further interest rates drops may help banks avoid operating losses, but the risks are high.
