Brits to miss out on Iraq rebuild

Article Abstract:

There is a $800 mil U.S. aid fund for Iraq reconstruction, but restrictions will pressure recipients into utilizing U.S.-based consultants. Thus U.K. architects may not be able to take part in the reconstruction of Iraq. The British Consultants and Construction Bureau would lke the U.K. government to seek modifications in the effort so that U.S. consultants would not obtain nearly the entire design work.

Brain drain abroad hits UK architecture schools

Article Abstract:

Individuals in architectural academics are leaving the UK resulting in a brain drain. There are concerns that efforts to fill UK positions will be unsuccessful, jeopardizing standards in architectural education and research. It was pointed out that pay is better for architectural academians in the US than the UK, and US institutions are more highly regarded.

The fall-out from Katrina

Article Abstract:

A host of organizations from the architectural community came into action aftermath Katrina to mobilize the local architects to help with the relief effort for both rebuilding and fund raising. However the impressive and largely unprecedented response from America's architects is unlikely to be the long-standing architectural consequence of Katrina's anger.
